Fillet

Fillet

A fillet is a strip of moulding that separates ornaments from other types of moulding. It is often used in classical as well as Gothic architecture. Fillets are generally narrow and can be either protruding or sunken (depressed).

Use Cases for a Fillet

You can use these wood moldings as accents at different intersections of architecture in your home. In the 14th century, it was commonly used together with larger mouldings and column shafts. Additionally, a fillet combines excellently with custom wood moulding that’s meant to have a more classical feel. It rarely sees much use in more modern designs.

However, we offer enough styles of fillets and other architectural wood moulding options that these pieces could find a place in simplistic and streamlined designs. We encourage you to browse our other moulding options to see whether you can mix and match to create something truly unique.

The Modern Fillet

Even though this piece was most commonly used centuries ago, you can incorporate fillets into your design to give them a Renaissance-like vibe. They add a sense of drama to a room, rounding out any existing architectural wood moulding that you already have in place.

They’re also versatile enough that you can use them in conjunction with other pieces, like the options we have in our Miscellaneous section. Our customer service representatives are also more than happy to walk you through how to use and install fillets to make the most of them and other custom moulding options in your home.

Mouldings One sells premium wooden mouldings for your home or architectural project. Our fillet mouldings are made of extremely durable hardwood. Choose from the fillet profiles pictured here or reach out to discuss a custom order. We use tooling to produce the exact mouldings you need.
