Cove baseboard molding is used as a transition material from the floor to the wall. Cove molding is generally less ornate than other styles, and, instead, features a flat or concave shape. In homes, base cove is almost always aesthetic rather than functional, however, it can nonetheless help protect walls from damage caused by furniture.
