Door Stop

Door Stop

While some mouldings are decorative or ornamental in nature, many also serve a practical function. Door stop mouldings are one style of trim that serve mostly a functional purpose.

The Function of Door Stop Mouldings

Door stop moulding is a type of custom wood trim that prevents doors from swinging through their frames. The molding trim can also hide the gap between the door and the jamb.

But the function goes further than just stopping doors from swinging inward. These wood mouldings can also improve a room’s privacy and the door’s insulation. And depending on what door you’re adding the moulding to, it can also enhance your home’s overall energy efficiency.

The stop moulding acts as a sound barrier, so it’s an excellent addition for connecting rooms you’d like to be more quiet, like bedrooms. Privacy is also crucial in these rooms, and the custom moulding keeps anyone from being able to see into the room while preventing light from leaking in.

Other Reasons to Add Stop Moulding

Though it’s primarily functional, there are many ways you can use door stop moulding to enhance a room’s aesthetic. For example, you can add moulding to give your door more dimension, making it pop against the wall.

You can even use stop moulding on windows that swing in or out. This provides a similar function while adding an interesting dimensional quality like it would on a door.

You’ll find there are several variations of door stop moulding styles, although their purpose is the same: to prevent a door from closing past the jamb. Our millworkers can produce period-accurate door stop trim styles for historic renovation projects.
